Let’s Hear it for Spring!

Spring Flowers
With a burst of blooming flowers and longer days, we could not be happier. There is renewal all around us. Yes, I am talking about spring. We will be optimistic and believe the latest snows have not hurt any of the budding flowering trees and shrubs. The perennials and bulbs I have seen have survived the winter beautifully.
April heralds the beginning of our gardening season. Our maintenance program is tailored to compliment your property. Spring clean ups are set to begin. We will be monitoring your plants, shrubs and lawn during the clean ups and will address any problems before they become detrimental. If you have any special requests or concerns, please call us at the office.

Happy Holidays
‘Tis the season of lights, candles, fires in the fireplace, laughter, parties and good food. If you are too busy to pay much attention to you yard this month, you’re in luck, as most outdoor plants require little attention these days.
Shrubs and Trees
Be careful when using de-icing salts around driveways and walks this winter. Salt is toxic to many flowers, trees, shrubs, and lawn grasses. Continue watering until the ground freezes, especially anything planted in 2009.
Regular Maintenance
See you next spring. Remember, however, we are here all winter to help you clean your garage, move heavy objects, etc. Give us a call if you need some help.
Gutter Cleaning
To date, all requested gutter cleaning has been completed. If you feel your gutters need another cleaning, we will be happy to do so.
Composting
Now is the perfect time to prepare for a beautiful garden next year. Compost now and your beds will get a shot of nutrients that have been cooking all winter.
Holiday Lights
If you are interested in holiday lighting or holiday plantings in your planters, it’s not too late.. We will sting lights on bushes and trees, your rooftop and chimney. Garland and wreaths are also available. Let us make your home a showplace for the holidays.
Snow Plowing
In Preparation for the upcoming winter, we are in the process of laying out our snow plowing schedule for our customers. Just as a reminder, snow plow contracts should be returned to our office prior to the first sizable snow to ensure you are on our schedule.
Our first Video Newsletter – James speaks about damaged lawns and natural fertilizers
As temperatures grow cooler and the days grow shorter, an important change is going on in your landscape. The brilliant blaze of fall foliage is a signal that winter is on its way, so now is a good time to ready your yard.
Regular Maintenance
You may notice small adjustments to your regular maintenance schedule during late fall. Due to falling leaves, gutter cleaning and the time constraints of fall clean ups, your regular maintenance may take place a day early or a day later than usual from time to time.
Composting
Autumn is the perfect time to prepare for a beautiful garden next year by composting. Compost now, and in the spring your garden and planting beds will get a shot of nutrients that have been cooking all winter long.
Bulb Planting
Go wild this fall with bulbs that, planted now, will bloom next spring. Liven up your home’s exterior with some beautiful spring color. For those of you who would like to discuss bulb planting, please contact the office to arrange for Jim to come out and suggest different possibilities and arrangements to maximize the potential of your yard.
Gutter Cleaning
Gutter cleaning is set to begin soon. It is our usual practice to clean your gutters at least once in November. For the past few years by mid to late November we have already had the first freeze. That means the leaves and debris in your gutters are wet, if not already frozen, making it difficult and time consuming to remove. Therefore, rather than wait until it is too late in the season, we are asking you to recommend a time period that is convenient for you. Please indicate the date or dates you would prefer for your gutter cleaning and we will set our schedule to accommodate your requests. We are willing to clear them out as often as you like.
September is natures transition from summer to fall
With the arrival of September, we begin the transition from summer to early fall with a jolt of cool nights and shorter, sunny days. Now is the time to revive the lawn, Start to think about fall bulbs for November planting into your landscape for your spring color. For September, let’s get mums on the schedule so you can enjoy them well into the fall.
Maximum weed control is done in September, along with treating insects such as grubs. We will focus on treating these conditions, along with any lawn fungus, by doing weekly inspections of your property. Mid-September through mid-October is a great time to plant trees and shrubs. Plants will have two months to settle their roots.
September is a good month to add mulch to your yard.
Fall mulching will keep the soil moist, and keeps the ground warm, acting as an insulating blanket for your plants over the winter.
Typically AUGUST is a drier, hotter month.
Watering is essential to maintain healthy plants and shrubbery. To minimize any stress during dry periods, water your trees and shrubs adequately. By August most yards are flourishing and merely need to be maintained. We will be watching for weeds, and will do touch up as needed. WATER! WATER! WATER!
Mulching is one of the best ways to maintain soil moisture (and save on your water bill), by keeping soil cool and even out temperature swings during hot and variable summer conditions and minimize the need to weed. A layer of mulch gives your garden a clean, freshly planted look, and the benefits last all season. Make sure to maintain mulch at one to three inches.
Many people are looking to make the most of their homes and want to create a beautiful exterior living space. Don’t let the recession hinder your plans to improve your home. A patio, driveway or walkway can be beautifully installed in bluestone, brick pavers or flagstone. A stone fire pit or fireplace are two attractive ways to create a space to gather family and friends and enjoy each others company.
